Trekking Trails:
While in Icche Gaon, you can go trekking depending on your level of endurance. From the village, there are both short and lengthy trekking trails.
One such short trail leads to the district’s highest point in Kalimpong.
Not only does the site provide spectacular views of Mt. Kangchenjunga, but it also provides unforgettable sunrise and sunset vistas. The greatest time to visit this location is at night, when you can see the twinkling lights of Darjeeling and Sikkim from afar and enjoy the flaming red beauty of the peaks.
If you want to go on a lengthier journey, you can go to Sillery Gaon, which is 2.5 kilometres away. This hiking track will take you through a lush forest of pine,Cedar and Fern trees. This hiking walk will take you through deep forests of pine, cedar, and ferns. These woodlands take on a vivid persona during the months of January to March, when orchids bloom.
Ramitey Dara
This vantage point provides a panoramic view of the area.
From Mt. Kanchenjunga, you can see the Teesta River’s tortuous path, complete with 14 twists. Of course, Ramitey Dara offers views of Mt. Kanchenjunga’s shifting colours at different times of the day (from bright yellow to fiery red).
Sangchen Dorjee Monastery
This is a well-known Buddhist temple and a popular tourist destination in Icche Gaon. When the Bhutanese king ruled over this region, this 300-year-old monastery was created. The old section of the monastery still has some lovely wall paintings depicting Tantrik Buddism’s different ideas and stories.
The mummified remains of a Bhutanese priest are another attraction at this monastery. The Chyam Dance Festival is held at the Sangchen Dorjee Monastery between the months of April and May.
Damsang Fort
This Kalimpong tourist location is 6 kilometers from Icche Gaon and is ideal for history and culture buffs. The Lepcha monarchs built the Damsang Fort in 1690 to fend off attacks from neighboring states. During the Anglo-Bhutan War of 1864, British forces destroyed a substantial chunk of this fort. The fort is surrounded by lush foliage and has a beautiful mountain backdrop.
Silence Valley near Sillery Gaon
Silence Valley is a lovely green woods that provides peace and quiet.
This wooded area, which is mostly made up of lofty pine trees, is one of the most peaceful places on the planet. The lovely sound of birds occasionally breaks the silence of this valley. Every year during the monsoons, a lake is formed. Siyal Pokhari is the name of the lake, which adds to the valley’s verdant attractiveness.
