On the road to the Silk Route, Rolep is a little quiet valley. All indigenous communities, including Gurung, Bhutia, Sherpas, Chettri, Sharma, and Rai, live in Rolep.
Step cultivation, which contributes to the mainstream economy, is the main source of income for the residents of Rolep. Tourism in the form of home stays, on the other hand, contributes to the mainstream economy. The residents’ major source of income is farming, which they do in the Rolep valleys where they cultivate rice and cardamom. Tea plantations were once practiced in these valleys, but there is little trace of them now. Rolep is surrounded by lush natural settings and a plethora of Himalayan flora. Apart from these, Rolep is home to a variety of Himalayan birds, including the Verditer Flycatcher, Green Backed Tit, Leaf Bird, Himalayan Bulbul, Streaked Spider Catcher, Scarlet Minivet, and Velvet Minivet, to name a few.
